Justice was served

After Jesus Christ died on the cross, the centurion stated that Jesus was a righteous man (Luke 23:47). Notice that the people, however, strike their chest and walk away in verse 48. Striking one’s chest and walking away, in that day, was to say “Justice had been served.” They could not have been more correct, but little did these people know that the justice that was served was for their sin and our’s. His death on the cross is what makes our justification possible. Turn to Christ.

“46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned” (Lk. 23:46-48 KJV).
